Большой кроссовер Cadillac SRX появился в модельном ряду марки в 2003 году, производство машин было организовано на заводе в штате Мичиган. Автомобиль был призван составить конкуренцию таким моделям, как Acura MDX, Lexus RX и Volvo XC90. В салоне «Кадиллака» могло быть пять или семь мест.
Cadillac SRX длиной 4,95 метра был создан на платформе GM Sigma, общей с седаном Cadillac CTS, причём первоначально кроссовер предлагался на американском рынке только с задним приводом. На автомобиль устанавливались бензиновые двигатели V6 3.6 (258-264 л. с.) и V8 4.6 (325 л. с.) в сочетании с пятиступенчатой автоматической коробкой передач.
В 2006 году был проведён рестайлинг модели: Cadillac SRX получил слегка обновлённый дизайн внешности и интерьера, в гамме появились версии с постоянным полным приводом, а восьмицилиндровые машины получили новый шестиступенчатый «автомат».
Автомобиль официально поставлялся и на российский рынок, в 2005 году крупноузловая сборка машин началась на калининградском «Автоторе». Кроссовер продавался в России с двигателем V8 и полным приводом по цене от 71000 долларов.
Производство модели первого поколения завершилось в 2009 году.

Кроссовер второго поколения, дебютировавший в 2009 году, стал чуть компактнее предыдущей модели и заметно изменился с технической точки зрения. Теперь Cadillac SRX базировался на переднеприводной платформе с поперечным расположением двигателя, у машины больше не было версий с моторами V8 и варианта с тремя рядами сидений. Производство кроссоверов перенесли на завод в Мексике (там же в течение недолгого времени делали аналогичную модель Saab 9-4X).
Гамма силовых агрегатов состояла из двигателя V6 3.0 (268–270 л. с.) и турбомотора V6 2.8 мощностью 300 л. с. Все версии комплектовались шестиступенчатой автоматической коробкой передач и могли иметь передний или полный привод.
В 2011 году выпуск турбоверсии прекратился, а чуть позже на конвейер встал Cadillac SRX, оснащённый мотором V6 3.6, развивающим 311–318 л. с.
Кроссовер Cadillac SRX второго поколения, 2009–2016
На российский рынок официально поставлялись кроссоверы с двигателями 3.0 и 3.6, причём в 2013 году мощность трёхлитрового мотора была снижена до выгодных с точки зрения налогов 249 л. с. У нас предлагались как переднеприводные, так и полноприводные модификации. Цены на Cadillac SRX в России начинались с 2,1 миллиона рублей (в 2016 году). Сборка машин для нашего рынка осуществлялась на «Автоторе» до 2014 года, затем производство перенесли на завод «Дженерал Моторз» в Санкт-Петербург (там их делали до 2015 года).
В 2016 году на смену модели SRX пришёл новый кроссовер Cadillac XT5.

SRX ranks near the peak of its class in safety, having earned five-star crash-test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named it a Top Safety Pick.
On the downside, this crossover has a heavier driving feel than expected. That's partly due to transmission gearing, but mainly the result of vehicle weight, well above two tons. At the same time, fuel economy scores significantly below average. Cadillac provides quite an array of safety systems, including adaptive cruise control and cross traffic alert, as well as a Safety Alert seat and automatic front/rear braking assist.
As for overall technology, SRX has practically been a showcase for some of the latest devices and systems. Every SRX has Cadillac's CUE infotainment system, which includes enhanced controls, plus an eight-inch screen interface with proximity sensing.
Four trim levels are available, each with an interior that's distinctive as well as luxurious. Active noise cancellation uses a microphone to detect ambient noise and counteracts harshness, making the interior remarkably quiet. The base SRX ($37,605) comes with leatherette seating, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power eight-way driver's seat, heated power mirrors, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Bose premium eight-speaker audio includes HD radio and SiriusXM satellite radio. Halogen headlights include a Twilight Sentinel. The base SRX has 18-inch aluminum wheels.
Upgrading to the Luxury Collection ($43,640) adds a power liftgate, UltraView sunroof, rearview camera, leather-upholstered seats, heated front seats, heated wood-rim steering wheel, power-folding mirrors, keyless access, a cargo shade, and auto-dimming mirrors. Aluminum 18-inch wheels have a bright machine finish.
The Performance Collection ($46,030) adds 20-inch aluminum wheels painted accents, high-intensity-discharge headlights with adaptive forward lighting, foglamps, adjustable pedals, and a Bose 10-speaker surround-sound system.
Topping the line, the Premium Collection ($48,920) includes tri-zone automatic climate control and heated outboard rear seats. A Driver Awareness package adds a Safety Alert seat, forward collision alert, lane-departure warning, and high-beam control.
A Driver Assist package is optional for Luxury, Performance, and Premium models, adding adaptive cruise control, automatic collision preparation, and automatic braking to the Driver Awareness group.
