2018 toyota tundra

2018 Toyota Tundra Review, Ratings, Specs, Prices, and Photos

Pickup trucks have always been highly configurable, and the 2018 Toyota Tundra is no exception.

We give it a 7 out of 10 for features, awarding it extra points for its big infotainment system, its wide range of optional equipment, and the fact that even base SR models are a solid starting point. (Read more about how we rate cars.)

The Tundra is available in SR, SR5, TRD Pro, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition trim levels; for 2018, a TRD Sport trim level brings with it some goodies designed to make it both look zippier and handle better. Every variant except the TRD Pro is available with rear- or four-wheel drive; the TRD Pro is 4x4 only

Starting with the Tundra SR, which is available in Double Cab and CrewMax configurations, the Tundra is fairly well-outfitted. The SR includes air conditioning, power windows and locks, a 6.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a USB input and Bluetooth, and, new for 2018, a full suite of safety equipment including automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warnings.

The Tundra SR5 builds on that a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment setup that also adds a smartphone-connected navigation function called Scout that relies on a user’s data plan, HD Radio, satellite radio, and chrome bumpers. It’s also available with a wider array of optional equipment like blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alerts, and a power driver’s seat.

From there, the lineup gets either more decadent or more capable, depending on which direction you choose to go. TRD models are more enthusiast-oriented, starting with the new TRD Pro. It rides on its own Bilstein shocks and has large sway bars, plus special styling outside and unique upholstery inside. The TRD Pro is the most off-road capable Tundra and it features a 2-inch front lift, all-terrain tires, Bilstein remote reservoir shocks, and other rugged bits.

What does the TRD Sport get?

Those who want a cowboy Cadillac—or maybe a lassoed Lexus?—should start with the Tundra Limited. It adds alloy wheels, leather upholstery, woodgrain trim, built-in navigation that doesn’t rely on a data connection, heated front seats, and JBL speakers.

Both the Tundra Platinum and Tundra 1794 Edition are outfitted about the same, at least on paper. They both have upgraded leather trim, cooled front seats, 20-inch wheels, and sunroofs. Where they differ is in their execution. The Western-themed 1794 Edition, so named because of the year the ranch on which Toyota’s San Antonio assembly plant was founded, predictably is available in earth-toned and is slathered with chrome. The Platinum goes for a more subdued, upscale look, with color-matched bumpers and toned-down badging.

1794 Edition and Platinum trim levels are only available as crew cabs. While they’re well-equipped, they don’t approach the level of coddling decadence of some rivals. Then again, a loaded up Tundra is in the mid-$50,000 range, while some competitive trucks approach $70,000. Are massaging seats in a loaded Ford F-150 worth the extra cost? That’s up to you.

Dashboard Indicators

Should a safety system light such as the ABS and SRS airbag warning lights not come on when you start the hybrid system, this could mean that these systems are not available to help protect you in an accident, which could result in death or serious injury. Have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer immediately if this occurs.

Dashboard icons are displayed in a variety of colors, depending on the system and its status in a specific vehicle. Yellow icons indicate an item of importance (such as low fuel), but are not necessarily a warning. Red icons indicate a condition that requires immediate attention, such as an open door or low engine oil pressure. See your vehicle's Owner's Manual for more details.

New 2018 Toyota Tundra will get diesel

By Justin Patterson 21 Feb 2017

The next major update of the Tundra won’t be until at least 2018, according to a source at the Japanese company.

That source also went on to say that the next generation Tundra will be designed for fuel-efficiency, but will have several load capacities; 1,000, 1,600 and 2,200 lbs, making it a direct competitor to the Ford F series, 2018 Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra and the Dodge Ram. The overall 2018 Toyota Tundra concept – reliable truck for everyday use has not changed.

Gender Holdrege, Vice President of Sales for Toyota America said that they need to understand the average fuel economy figures before talking about other powertrain options.

Diesel Version

There are plenty of rumors fluctuating about the appearance of 2018 Tundra diesel. According to latest news, the truck might get Cummins turbo diesel of the same model, used by Nissan in its pickup trucks (more precisely, in a Titan XD). Tundra equipped with such engine could carry heavy load, thanks to 300 horsepower and even more torque, especially at low engine speeds.

The price for such truck expected to be higher, because the diesel engine is bigger, more complex, has more details.

New Design Rumors

When is the Tundra getting redesigned? According to the latest rumors, the Toyota Tundra 2018 will be a complete redesign, not just a bit of styling. The new Tundra will be built upon a new platform, using lighter materials (aluminum and high-strength steel for example).

It’s said that the interior will also be redesigned, getting new seats, dash, steering wheel and a steering column stick shift.

When will Tundra be redesigned? The main rumors are regarding the actual release date of the truck. The most stable ones is that Tundra 2018 will be presented at the Febuary, 2017 at Chicago Auto Show. Toyota has revealed the current generation Tundra at the Chicago Auto Show as well. Despite rumors, there are no 2018 Toyota Tundra news from official sources yet.

2018 Toyota Tundra Release date and Price

The expected release date for the new Toyota Tundra 2018 isn’t until at least the end of 2017, perhaps even as far away as mid-2018.

Release date: late 2017-mid 2018

The current price of the 2016 Tundra starts at $31,000, it is thought that prices will remain similar, although perhaps a small increase could be on the cards if Toyota introduce a completely new model.

What Is Under the Hood

The most significant changes will take place under the hood; a new Cummins turbocharged diesel engine – V8, 5.0 liter and 300 BHP with a massive 500 lb/ft of torque. It’s thought that this is essential to compete with the diesel offering from Nissan – the Titan XD.

It will be coupled to an 8-speed auto transmission.
