Dacia launched the new Duster 2018

The Romanian car manufacturer presented today, at the Franakfurt Motor Show, the new generation of Duster. The new SUV from Dacia promises a more elegant exterior design, a new interior with modern elements but with the same engine range. “The new Duster has a new and robust exterior design while the interior is more comfortable, has better quality materials and improved ergonomics”said Francois Mariotte, Dacia Commercial Director.

 

The new generation of Duster measures 4.3 meters in length, has a width of 1.8 meters and a ground clearance of 210 mm. The luggage compartment measures 445 liters in the 4×2 version and 376 liters in the 4×4 version. The approach angle is 30 degrees, while the departure angle measures 33 degrees.

On the exterior, the new generation of Duster comes with a slightly improved and a more robust exterior design. In the front of the new Duster 2018, we can see a redesigned hood, new LED daytime running lights and a new satin chrome shield. According to Dacia officials, the windscreen is moved 100 mm forward for an increased aerodynamics, while the wheel arches are more prominent, and the wheels are 17 inches. In the back, the Duster borrowed the new stops from the new Sandero and Logan and there is a newly available color called Orange Attacama.  “We have a completely new design, both on the exterior and on the interior. The new Duster has a wider appearance and a more imposing look, “said Laurens van den Acker, the Renault design director.

On the interior, the Duster 2018 promises a revised board, better materials and a re-positioned MediaNav infotainment. The board has five redesigned air vents, three of which are centrally located. There is a new display in the center of the dash instrument where the driver can see essential information about the car. The new 4 spoke steering wheel can be adjusted both in height (40 mm) and in depth (50 mm).

The Dacia officials say the Duster 2018 offers more comfortable and easy to adjust seats. The length of the seat was increased by 20 mm and there are newly adjustable head restraints. The driver’s seat has a new lumbar adjustment and a mechanism for height adjustment (60 mm). The internal storage space now reaches 28.6 liters, up 5.8 liters more than the old generation. The new storage spaces are located on the center console and in front of the front passenger. At the same time, the Dacia officials say that the exterior noise has been drastically reduced.

“On the interior, the new Duster has been completely redesigned, and it is now more comfortable and practical, offering new equipment and more storage space. The quality of materials and the new finishes show that Dacia has moved the new Duster to a new level, “said David Durand, Dacia Design Director.

In terms of equipment, the new Duster features an automatic climate control system, curtain airbags, automatic headlights, keyless start and a blind spot warning system. In addition, the new Duster is equipped with a new system called “multiview camera” that integrates four video cameras (one in front, one rear and two lateral), which will make it easier for the driver to calculate the off-road maneuvers. The Mioveni car manufacturer officials say the new Duster will be available with Hill Descent Control and Hill Start Assist systems.

The new generation Dacia Duster will be powered by two petrol and two diesel engines. The petrol engine fans can opt for the SCe unit with 115 HP (4×2) or TCe unit with 125 HP (4×2, 4×4). If you prefer a diesel engine, Dacia offers the 90 HP dCi engine in the 4×2 version or the dCi 110 HP version (4×2, 4×4). The EDC double clutch automatic gearbox can be ordered only with the 110 HP diesel engine in the 4×2 version.

Dacia Duster Gets New Blue dCi Engines With More Power

If you were among the early adopters to purchase a second-generation Duster with a diesel engine, we’re afraid we have some bad news as you’ve missed out on the new Blue dCi powertrains. The budget-friendly SUV from Dacia is already receiving a pretty important update underneath the hood where the familiar four-cylinder 1.5-liter turbodiesel engine has been massaged to deliver an extra horsepower.

The bump in output is for both versions of the diesel engine, which means the old dCi 90 is being promoted to the dCi 95 moniker while the stronger dCi 110 shall be known from now on as the dCi 115, with both adding the “Blue” affix. There’s more good news to share as the lesser version of the diesel offers an additional 30 Newton-meters (22 pound-feet) for a grand total of 240 Nm (177 lb-ft) of torque at 1,750 rpm. The more powerful of the two diesels will soldier on with 260 Nm (192 lb-ft).

The diesel-powered Duster with either of the two Blue dCi units is now quicker in the sprint to 62 mph (100 kph) by more than a second. Go for the lesser of the two diesels and it will need 12.6 seconds to complete the task (down from 13.8s) while the beefier one will achieve the run in 10.5 seconds (down from 11.8s). Top speed has also slightly increased, from 158 to 167 kph (98 to 104 mph) in the case of the former and from 171 to 179 kph (106 to 111 mph) for the latter.

Aside from gaining slightly more muscle, the pair of 1.5-liter diesel engines comes with the latest technologies meant to cut polluting emissions. Therefore, the oxidation catalytic converter located in the exhaust line now encompasses the Selective Catalytic Reduction technology (SCR). It works with AdBlue to get rid of more nitrogen dioxide emissions (NOx) while at the same time increasing the performance and efficiency of the engine.

Fuel consumption hasn’t changed compared to the previous-gen diesel engines, with both needing 4.4 liters / 100 km, which works out to CO2 emissions of 115 g/km as per NEDC.

Dacia says it will introduce the pair of Blue dCi engines across its entire lineup in the weeks to come.

Boulogne-Billancourt, 7 June 2018. Dacia is introducing a new generation of its Diesel engines on the Duster, which feature the latest systems for reducing polluting emissions. Renamed for the occasion “Blue dCi”, these new engines guarantee increased performance and optimised consumption for still unbeatable prices.

In addition to the “selective catalytic reduction” system (SCR), the dCi 95 and 115 operate with a new Air-Water exchanger, a higher injection pressure (2,000 bars) and new gearbox ratios. These evolutions thus provide increased driving pleasure with:

- a 5 hp increase in power- 30 Nm (at 1750 rpm) of additional torque for the Blue dCi 95 

- Faster 0 to 100 km/h gaining more than 1 second on both versions

Consumption and emissions of these two engines remain controlled at 115g of CO2 (NEDC BT) and 4.4L in the mixed cycle (data in the course of certification).

The Blue dCi will be rolled-out over the entire Dacia range in the next few weeks (including the Duster 4-wheel drive). Eager to propose the best quality/price/equipment ratio, the Dacia Duster Blue dCi will be sold in France from June 7, 2018.

New Dacia Grand Duster design version

After the English journalists from Autoexpress published some photos with a design version of the expected 7 seater SUV from Dacia, a new magazine published some photos with a new design version for the Grand Duster. It is the French magazine, Auto-Moto.com who based their design version on the Datsun Go-Cross sho wcar. The low-cost brand, who is also part of the Renault-Nissan Group, presented the new Go-Cross SUV at the Delhi Auto Expo in August 2016. Although we don’t have any information about the Grand Duster, we can assume that the two models will have some common elements, including design and performance.

With more than one million Duster units sold from the launch in 2010, Dacia wants to capitalize on this success and to update the look of its SUV in the autumn of 2017. The new Grand Duster will also use the new version but will be slightly bigger. If the current version of the Duster measures 4.32 meters in length, the new 5 seat version will measure 4.4 meters and the Grand Duster will measure 4.5 meters. The 10 centimetres difference is needed to accommodate the third row of seats.

The new Grand Duster will be available in 2 wheel drive and in 4 wheel drive and it will have and automatic transmission option, the currently used 6-speed EDC double clutch. On the inside, the new Duster will receive some updates that will improve the ergonomics with the car. The new multimedia system will be improved and will have new connectivity features, that are already found on Renault R-Link 2. In terms of safety, the new Dacia Grand Duster could offer, as an option, an automatic low-speed emergency braking system.

Although it will be difficult for Dacia to maintain the current starting price of 12,000 euros for the new version of the Duster, we are convinced that the Romanian SUV will continue to be the cheapest model on the market. The Grand Duster will cost a couple hundred euros more than the 5 seat version and will defiantly be the cheapest 7-seater available.

The Dacia Duster has just celebrated 10 years since its launch and is a very popular model in France, with 36,428 units sold last year with 5.6% more than in 2015. The Duster has 1.8% market share and is the 13th most popular car in France in 2016.
